Pat Krenik Pat is a long time scientologist who has been around since the 1950s when Ron was around. She is a classed auditor and has at least 50 years experience in scientology. Forward Extract Definition of Scientology™: "An organized body of scientific research knowledge concerning life, life sources and the mind, and includes practices that improve the intelligence, state, and conduct of persons." Taken from Hubbard Communications Office Bulletin of 9 July 1959.
There is a book, printed by the Publications Organization of the Church of Scientology™ of California, called "What is Scientology." It is large, has many pictures, and is designed to give someone an idea of the research knowledge concerning life, life sources and the mind. If you are interested in studying some basics of the technology, that book will give you an overview. This writing is not a treatise on the technology or 'tech' of Scientology; instead it is intended as an educational tool to help anyone be able to do a quick study of the subject and obtain a sensible idea of the world within Scientology.
The subject matter will cover what Scientology is as well as what it isn't, and it will include not only how the belief system works, but also how it is being applied in and out of the Churches of Scientology. It will include the surprising information about who owns Scientology.
Scientology has its own nomenclature. Without understanding the words Scientologists use it would be impossible for me to communicate to you about Scientology. In the back of the book is a list of terms and definitions; please turn to page sixty-five when you run into a word or abbreviation you don't understand, or consult a dictionary if the word you don't know isn't on the list.
The part of the definition above that says, "…and includes practices that improve the intelligence, state, and conduct of persons" is commonly referred to within the Scientology religion as "Standard Tech™." Attorneys may feel assured that the definition at the top of the page is a proper and legal definition of Scientology.
As the members and staff refer to their Churches as "orgs," short for organizations, I will be using that term in the text from time to time.
This book will also cover conflicts about the practice of Scientology, including how a growing number of people who do not care for some of the practices within the Church structure are choosing to practice their religion outside of the COS. They still consider themselves Scientologists, even though unrecognized by the hierarchy of the Church of Scientology. They may call themselves ex-scientologists, former scientologists, reformed scientologists or Freezoners, but Scientology as defined above is still their belief system.
Within the confines of the Churches of Scientology there is much that is practiced that is not Scientology. Many Freezoners feel that reform of the COS is not possible. In the media there has been a lot of speculation about Scientology-at the very least, mixed reviews. It is broadly published that certain talented people, such as John Travolta and Tom Cruise, are members in good standing and positive about Scientology, yet there are perhaps hundreds of posted statements on the Internet by former members that are less than complimentary. In the language of another religion, this book will help you separate the "wheat from the chaff."
